Guava Farming Success Story: Bundi Farmer Turns Farming Profitable
🌾 Success Story That Started from the Land of Bundi
Guava fruit has its own special identity. When guavas, full of taste and nutrition, appear on the trees as shiny green-yellow fruits, the whole orchard looks beautiful.
Rajasthan’s Bundi district is known for its historical heritage and natural beauty. Its lakes, green hills, forts and royal palace chhatris are its identity. Farming is also progressing in this district.
In the same Bundi district, farmers Omprakash Verma and his son Himanshu Verma have adopted guava farming and created a new path to success in agriculture.
👨🌾 Farmer Family Adopted Guava Farming
Omprakash Verma is around 50 years old and has been connected with the land for a long time. Now, his family works together in agriculture.
Along with guava farming, other crops are also grown in their field according to the season. During the rainy season, crops like pulses, maize and vegetables are grown, while crops like wheat, mustard and gram are also cultivated.
Himanshu Verma completed a diploma in civil engineering and worked for around five years. After that, he became connected with agriculture. After getting good income from farming, he started taking agriculture forward with his family.
🌱 40 Bighas of Guava Orchard on Around 100 Bighas of Land
Omprakash Verma has around 100 bighas of land. With the help of agricultural science and modern techniques, he started guava farming on around 40 bighas of land.
This orchard, prepared with the right techniques and better management, is the result of his hard work and vision. Guava farming gave a new direction to his agricultural work.
🔬 Started Orchard Work with Soil Testing
Before planting the guava orchard, Omprakash Verma took advice from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK). The scientists first advised him to get the soil tested.
According to him, land with a pH of 7 to 7.5 was considered good. After this, he purchased plants from a nursery.
For planting, two-by-two pits were prepared and the distance from one pit to another was kept around 22 feet. The pits were filled with farmyard manure, super phosphate, pesticide and neem cake. After the pits were properly set, planting was done.

🌿 Started with 600 Plants, Then Expanded the Orchard
Omprakash Verma initially planted around 600 guava plants. Looking at the production and profit, he gradually expanded the orchard.
Today, he is said to have around 1,500 guava plants.
During the first three years, crops like urad, moong and gram were also grown inside the orchard. After three years, the plants started giving production.
🍈 Better Production with Different Guava Varieties
Different varieties, including Allahabadi and Safeda, have been mentioned in Omprakash Verma’s orchard. According to him, the varieties planted in the orchard are giving good production.
A scientist from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra has also mentioned the Lucknow-49 and Barf Khan varieties in the context of Omprakash Verma’s orchard.
📦 Production of 1 to 1.5 Quintals from One Tree
According to the farmer, around one to one and a half quintals of production is obtained from one guava tree. The ready guavas are packed and sent to cities located far away.
The increasing demand for guava has made it a better income option for farmers. The programme also mentioned that there is demand for guava in the market throughout the year.
🚛 Farmer’s Guava Reaches from Jaipur to Agra
The crop that is ready in winter is said to be harvested between October and February. When the fruits are ready, they are plucked from the trees and packed in crates using newspapers.
After this, guavas are sent through vehicles and pickups to places like Jaipur Mandi, Indore Mandi, Jodhpur, Uttar Pradesh and Agra.
💰 Guava Gets Sold Directly from the Farm, Price Up to ₹15–30
According to Omprakash Verma, when the fruits are ready, vehicle owners and mandi traders come directly to buy them. As per the market price, guava is said to be sold from here at around ₹15 to ₹30.
The farmer has stated that there is around 80 percent profit in a year.
According to Himanshu Verma, around ₹1,000 is received from one tree, with approximately 25 percent of the production cost and 75 percent increase in income being mentioned.

🧹 Employment from Weeding to Fruit Harvesting
It is said that cleaning weeds and regular weeding are necessary in the guava orchard. Workers are hired for this work.
Workers are also needed for harvesting the fruits. In this way, along with horticulture, employment is also created.
🐛 It is Important to Protect Guava Crop from Insects During Rainy Season
Guava trees produce fruits in both seasons of the year. In winter, the quality and shine of guava look better, while during the rainy season, the orchard needs more monitoring and care.
During fruit setting, there can be an attack of insects. Omprakash Verma regularly monitors the orchard and, when needed, takes advice from experts at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
According to the farmer, when insects attack, medicines are used after taking advice from agricultural scientists. Spraying at an interval of around 15 days and the use of insecticides, fungicides and NPK have been mentioned.

🪰 Be Careful of Fruit Fly, Mealybug and Stem Borer
The agricultural scientist has mentioned insects like fruit fly, mealybug, stem borer and caterpillar in guava.
For the control of fruit fly, information has been given about installing 10 to 12 methyl traps per hectare. If the insect attack is higher than normal, the use of insecticides after taking advice from scientists or the Agriculture Department has been mentioned.

The use of farm-made manure, cow dung manure and neem cake is mentioned in the farming of Omprakash Verma and Himanshu Verma. Along with this, they also take the support of agricultural scientists’ guidance and scientific techniques.
